Search warrants executed in two separate child porn investigations in the Fort McMurray area

On Oct. 29th, 2025 Wood Buffalo RCMP, Specialized Investigations Unit and General Investigation Section executed two judicially authorized search warrants in the Fort McMurray area.

Two separate and unrelated child pornography investigations had been initiated by the RCMP National Child Exploitation Coordination Centre (NECC) after information was received from the US based National Centre for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC).

These investigations were completed in cooperation with the Alberta Law Enforcement Response Teams’ (ALERT) Northern Alberta Internet Child Exploitation Unit (NAICE) and Southern Alberta Internet Child Exploitation Unit (SAICE).  

In both investigations, reports were submitted to NCMEC by social media platforms that had detected the upload and/or sharing of images or videos that potentially met the definition of child pornography. Through the referral process and subsequent investigation, the images and videos were identified as child pornography. The IP addresses of the suspect social media accounts were identified, allowing investigators to determine the origin of the uploaded materials.

Both investigations are open and ongoing. No further details will be released at this time due to the sensitive nature of the investigations.
