Maskwacis RCMP charge male with weapons trafficking

Ermineskin Cree Nation, Alta. – In 2024, Maskwacis RCMP recovered a firearm from a crime scene. After extensive investigation, it was determined that this firearm was illegally purchased. On Oct. 23, 2025, Maskwacis RCMP arrested 26-year-old Payne Smallboy, a resident of Ermineskin Cree Nation, for firearms trafficking.

Smallboy has been charged with:

  • Weapons trafficking;
  • Transferring a firearm without authority.

After a Judicial Interim Release Hearing, Smallboy was released with a number of conditions. He will be appearing in Alberta Court of Justice in Wetaskiwin on Nov. 18, 2025.
