The City of Humboldt has suspended its city manager, Joe Day, with pay while council reviews public allegations made against the senior administrator.

In a statement released June 3, council said it met at a special session on May 27 to assess public allegations involving the city manager. Following that meeting, council placed the city manager on suspension with pay pending further deliberation.

Council emphasized that the suspension is a preliminary measure and does not represent a final determination.

“Council takes its obligations as an employer and as a public body seriously and will ensure that any further steps are taken in a manner that is fair, impartial, and consistent with those obligations,” the statement said.

The release did not provide details about the allegations or indicate how long the review process is expected to take.

To ensure continuity of municipal operations, council has appointed City Clerk Lori Yaworski as interim city manager, effective immediately. The appointment was made in accordance with the city’s Administrative Bylaw 01/2003.

The statement comes days after public discussion surrounding allegations involving the city manager, including concerns raised during recent council proceedings.

Council has not announced when it expects to provide a further update. Humboldt city manager Joe Day had announced his retirement in April, effective Aug. 15, after nearly a decade with the city.
