Man arrested, charged with second-degree murder following homicide in Cold Lake

Cold Lake, Alta. – On Nov. 1, 2025, at 8:30 a.m., Cold Lake RCMP were dispatched to a complaint of shots fired at a trailer complex.

Upon arrival, members located the victim, Nairy Desaulnier (46), a resident of Cold Lake, deceased.

Witnesses gave a description of the suspect and the firearm and RCMP began to search for the suspect.

At 9:15 a.m., RCMP received a call regarding a man with a firearm trying to gain entrance to an address. Members responded and arrested the suspect, who was later confirmed to be the shooter.

A search incidental to arrest revealed a loaded firearm, extra ammunition, a taser and brass knuckles. Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit was deployed and took carriage of the investigation.

As a result of the investigation, Wesley Wanderingspirit (39), a resident of Cold Lake, was charged with second-degree murder.

Wanderingspirit was brought before a justice of the peace and remanded into custody, to appear before the Alberta Court of Justice in Lac La Biche on Nov. 3, 2025.
