To Rankin Inlet resident Mike Shouldice, American President Donald Trump is proving himself to be deranged with his actions in Greenland.
Shouldice points out that Trump has stated that he doesn’t want Russia for neighbours, but Russia is next door to Alaska.
He said, to him, the implications of any American action against Greenland would be the possible destabilization of NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization).
“Then I see NATO countries in Europe… saying to the U.S. that if they move on this, then they can move all their bases and troops out of our country,” said Shouldice. “There’s no winner on this. It’s not clear what it would accomplish, except for it to be just another example of his stupidity that he’s lying to himself about.”
Shouldice said Trump recently told international news agency Reuters that missing the midterm elections seems to be the way it goes once you’re doing well in the presidency.
He said that could just be Trump projecting his own thoughts.
“Then he said I don’t know why we bother having elections anyway. So, what happens if he plays that card?
“He (Trump) just perpetually uncovers all the lies. I mean, there’s just no truth that one could see in so much of what he says. He keeps a brag book of all his accomplishments, so Reuters says. I believe, personally, that he’s looking for a war because, if he gets himself a war, then, of course, he doesn’t have to hold an election.
“If things keep going the way they are, they’re either going to end up with a civil war or some really divided citizens (in the U.S.). I mean, they were pretty divided when Kent State happened (the killing of four and wounding of nine unarmed college students by the Ohio National Guard on the Kent State University campus in Kent, Ohio, on May 4, 1970) over the Vietnam War.
“I think we’re heading that way again.”
Shouldice said Canada used to be lucky to have the United States as ‘big brother.’
He said that’s just become too unreliable in today’s environment.
“I have no doubt that he (Trump) would turn on Canada in a heartbeat. If he just decides he wants the extra territory, we could be next.
“In some cases, they’re (Americans) drinking good water become we’re sending it to them and some states are buying our power.
“It would be a very significant thing in the world if he ever turns on Canada and who knows where we go to from there?”
