Ayla Egotik Learn, of Kugluktuk, was killed in St. Albert, Alta., on Jan. 23, according to police.
Alberta RCMP said they believe Egotik Learn’s 9-month-old daughter Braylee Beasley is also deceased, but they have not found the baby’s body.
However, police said they have “some understanding” of where the baby’s remains may be buried.
Christopher Beasley, 33, was arrested on Jan. 27 and has been charged with two counts of indignity to a body and one count of second-degree murder.
The two counts of indignity to a body relate to both Egotik Learn, 23, and Braylee Beasley, while the second-degree murder charge is in connection to the death of Egotik Learn.
A resident of St. Albert, Christopher Beasley was found by police in a hotel room in town.
He remains under arrest, and his next court date is scheduled for Feb. 2.
Police were responding to a report of a suspicious item in an apartment building when they discovered Egotik Learn’s body.
“A woman and her child should be planning tomorrow, not being mourned today. I am deeply saddened for this family and extend my heartfelt condolences to all those that loved them,” said RCMP Insp. Wayne Stevenson, operations officer with the Alberta RCMP Serious Crime Branch.
