Parkland RCMP & Central Alberta Crime Reduction Team respond to erratic driver complaint

On Oct. 8, at 6:28 a.m., Parkland RCMP received a complaint of a black Dodge car driving erratically in Spruce Grove. Police located the vehicle and attempted a traffic stop but the vehicle sped away. With further reports received from the public, police located the vehicle abandoned and blocking lanes of highway 16a. When police arrived, the suspect was taken into custody without incident. Police discovered that the vehicle had previously been reported as stolen.  

Riley Henkel (24), a resident of Duffield, Alta; was charged with the following offences:

  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000,
  • Breach of release order (x3), 
  • Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle,
  • Impaired operation of a motor vehicle,
  • Fight from peace officer, 
  • Resist/obstruct peace officer.

Henkel was remanded into custody and his next court appearance is through the Alberta Court of Justice on Oct. 22, 2025.
