Cold Lake RCMP crime reduction unit seizes illegal drugs, firearms

Cold Lake, Alta. – On Oct. 21, 2025, Cold Lake RCMP Crime Reduction and General Investigation Units executed a search warrant at a rural address in the Beaverdam area of Bonnyville MD, Alta. During the execution of this search warrant the Alberta RCMP recovered and seized numerous stolen vehicles, firearms, ammunition, and contraband cigarettes.

In total the RCMP recovered and seized the following property:

• 3 vehicles;
• 1 flat deck trailer;
• 2 off highway vehicles;
• 7 firearms;
• 1 prohibited firearm magazine;
• Approximately 5,000 rounds of ammunition; and
• Approximately 4,200 contraband cigarettes.

As a result of the investigation, Russell Dick (38), of no fixed address, has been charged with:

• Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000;
• Operation of motor vehicle while prohibited; and
• Possession weapon contrary to court order.

Russell Dick was brought before a justice of the peace and was remanded in police custody. He is scheduled to appear before the Alberta Court of Justice in St. Paul on Oct. 23, 2025.

“This investigation led to a significant seizure of stolen property and firearms by one of Alberta RCMP’s Crime Reduction Units,” said Staff Sgt. James Morton, acting Operations Officer for Alberta RCMP’s Eastern Alberta District.  “Crime Reduction Units target priority offenders that cause the most harm in our communities and play a crucial role in enhancing public safety by targeting these repeat offenders.”
